Kwathu, Diminish Band to spice up 2025 SustainFest

Kwathu Cultural Troupe and Prince and Diminish Band is today expected to bring vibrancy to patrons at the 2025 SustainFest at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe with soul-soothing cultural dances and live music performances.

The SustainFest, short for Sustainability Festival, is a celebration of Malawi’s local food systems in shaping a healthier and more resilient future for the country. The event is the climax of the three-day 2025 National Conference on Agroecology held in Lilongwe, organised by Scope Malawi, Seed and Knowledge Initiative, Participatory Ecological Land Use Management and Trocaire, among others.

In an interview, Prince Valamanja of Diminish Band, said people should expect an electrifying performance rooted in Malawi music to entertain all generations.

He said: “We are bringing wonderful and energetic music to this family-friendly event while they appreciate our local food. This is the third time to be engaged in this festival and we will go flat out to entertain and honour the trust of the organisers in us.”

Scope Malawi coordinator Chifundo Khokwa said the festival strives to raise awareness of the role of local foods in food security and promote healthy eating for sustainable development.

“This is a free of charge event as it is also an opportunity for the public to explore indigenous knowledge to tackle hunger and malnutrition. It is time to appreciate local food production, eco-friendly solutions and green innovations,” she said.

The festival, which is held under the theme: “My food, my health, my future,” will start from 9am through to 4pm, with local food displays, farming demonstrations and other sustainable exhibitions
